The SAME FAM Committee held their quarterly conference call/web committee meeting on 12 Dec., 2013. The meeting started with a 50 minute webinar on "Cybersecuring DoD Industrial Control Systems" by Daryl Haegley, Program Manager in ODUSD(I&E) and Michael Chipley, President, The PMC Group. . The slides for the webinar can be accessed by clicking on the FAM Committee Quarterly Meeting - 12 Dec 2013 title above.
The Department of Defense (DoD) is one of the largest owners of real estate, buildings, and Industrial Control Systems (ICS) in the United States. The DoD has over 300,000 buildings, over 250,00 linear structures, and an estimated 2.5 million plus unique ICS systems. Typical of other ICS owner/operators, the DoD ICS systems have become potential cyber targets and the DoD has undertaken a number of efforts to further secure both the traditional IT and ICS systems. This webinar provided an overview of a number of efforts underway with DoD and in conjunction with other federal and private sector partners, outlined the next steps to ensure cybersecurity of DoD ICS systems. In addition to the slide presentation above, a copy of the Sep 2013 Military Engineer featured article on cybersecurity can be accessed by clicking on this link.

The SAME FAM Committee's next quarterly conference call / web meeting is planned for Tuesday, March 11th from 2:00 -3:00 pm Eastern Time.
We will start with a 50 minute webinar on "Partnerships and FY13 NDAA Section 331" by Ms. Carla K. Coulson. A short synopsis and bio are provided below. We will be offering 1 PDH for your participation.
A very brief committee meeting will follow the presentation.
TITLE: Partnerships and FY13 NDAA Section 331
SYNOPSIS: The speaker will review the FY 13 NDAA legislation that provides the Department of Defense with the ability to enter into Public-Public partnerships with State and local communities. The presentation will include the characteristics of the legislation - use of local wage rates, provides the ability to acquire or provide services, and supports sole source agreements of up to 5 years. She will also provide an update on the initial pilot projects, the Army's progress, lessons learned to date and the required Report to Congress. There are challenges implementing the intent of the legislation and the speaker intends to talk briefly about those challenges and how the Army might address them either through policy, process or new legislation as we move forward. It is critical that we think of innovative and creative ways to optimize the use of the legislation. Your best thinkers should feel challenged to take this on.
SPEAKER BIO: Ms. Carla K. Coulson, SES serves as the Director, Installation Services in the Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Installation Management. In this capacity she develops and oversees Army-wide policies and strategies for a host of installation services of great importance to Soldiers, Families, and civilians, including but not limited to, Soldier and Family Readiness, Housing and Barracks, Logistics, Environmental, and Privatization and Partnership programs. Welcome to the Facility Asset Management (FAM) Committee of the Society of American Military Engineers.
Initiated in 2005, the committee includes a growing partnership with IFMA (The International Facility Management Association) and recurring sponsorships of annual facility management forums and educational tracks at SAME and IFMA conferences.
