Mission Statement

The mission of the SAME Young Members Council is to be an advocate for and engage young member support of SAME’s Strategic Plan through outreach, training, networking and recognition.

Announcements:

Credentialing Achievement Awards Program (application due date: Oct. 3, 2014)

Credentialing Achievement Awards Program has been created to support SAME Young Members and NCOs obtain credentials that strengthen their professionalism. The program is intended to help fund exam sitting or registration fees for credentials, certifications or licensures deemed to have intrinsic value to SAME’s mission and the architectural and engineering professions. Awards to approved applicants will be based upon successful completion of exams and submittal of required documentation. For full program details and application forms, click here.

Past YM Professional Development Call:

Guest Speaker: Col Sal Nodjomian, USAF (Ret.), P.E., F.SAME (Bio Attached)
Topic: Engineering Leadership and Development

Description: We are honored to have Col (Ret.) Nodjomian as our guest speaker this quarter. Recently retired after nearly 24 years in the Air Force, Col Nodjomian is currently the Executive Vice President and Global Director of Federal Practices for the Matrix Design Group. He is also the SAME South Central Regional Vice President and was recently re-elected as Councilman for the City of Niceville, Florida. Col Nodjomian plans to discuss engineering leadership, both from his perspective as a former senior Air Force Civil Engineer leader and as a senior engineer in the private sector. His talk will cover things young engineers can do to improve themselves and advance in the engineering field. Further, he plans to talk in general terms about the transition to the private sector and his personal involvement in SAME.

Professional Development Hours: For the first time ever, the YM Council will award PDHs for participation in this call. Depending on the duration, you will likely earn 0.5-1 PDH towards certification requirements.

The Council holds a quarterly Professional Development Teleconference. These calls are a great opportunity to gain the perspective of many leaders within our career field. They provide an excellent forum for discussion between Young Members and field leaders. Mentoring & Recognition

Promoting and developing a strong and lasting mentoring bond between SAME Fellows, Members, and Young Members is a focus of the Young Member activities.  We hope that you’re making a strong effort at your Post to link YMs and Fellows at events.  Let us know how you’re doing it and if you’re not, please send Capt. Be sure to take the time to nominate your YMs for the Tudor and the Sverdrup Medal awards through your Post’s Board of Direction. 

A civilian Young Member can receive the Tudor Medal for the most outstanding contribution to engineering design, construction, research, development, or planning. A uniformed Young Member can receive the Sverdrup for the most outstanding contribution to engineering, the military service, SAME, or the nation. Young Members are also eligible to receive other society awards.  Deadlines for nominations are typically the end of January. Communications is a vital resource we need to develop. With your active participation, YMs will have the opportunity to share their SAME and professional experiences, receive advance notice on YM activities and events taking shape throughout SAME, and spotlight your most accomplished YMs and YM programs. We look forward to meeting and working with you! We use several avenues to deliver this information to you.
