Improve the efficient, effective, and sustainable stewardship of federal facilities through research and advocacy of facility asset management best practices, fostering facility management educational and professional development opportunities, and addressing current and future facility management issues.
The SAME FAM Committee held their quarterly conference call/web committee meeting on 11 Mar, 2014. The meeting started with a 50 minute webinar on "Partnerships and FY13 NDAA Section 331" by Ms. Carla K. Coulson, U.S. Army, Director, Installation Services in the Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Installation Management. The slides for the webinar can be accessed by clicking on the FAM Committee Quarterly Meeting - 11 Mar 2014 title above.
Ms. Coulson reviewed the FY 13 NDAA legislation that provides the Department of Defense with the ability to enter into Public-Public partnerships with State and local communities. She discussed the characteristics of the legislation - use of local wage rates, how it provides the ability to acquire or provide services, and how it supports sole source agreements for up to 5 years. She provided an update on the initial pilot projects, the Army's progress, lessons learned to date and the required Report to Congress. She also spoke briefly about some of the challenges of implementing the intent of the legislation and how the Army might address those challenges either through policy, process or new legislation as it moves forward in the future.
1 PDH was earned by participants in the Webinar. The certificate can be accessed clicking on this link.

Welcome to the Facility Asset Management (FAM) Committee of the Society of American Military Engineers.
Initiated in 2005, the committee includes a growing partnership with IFMA (The International Facility Management Association) and recurring sponsorships of annual facility management forums and educational tracks at SAME and IFMA conferences. The committee is a source of facility and asset management information, resources and events, and as of May 2010, it is also the sponsoring committee for the SAME Sustainability Sub-Committee.
Our intent is to provide an information resource on facility and asset management topics of interest to our members. To support our members, we will provide information and reference links on the website, continue to look for meaningful industry partnerships, offer quarterly web-based meetings/conference calls and Sustainability Sub-Committee activities, encourage our membership to submit FAM articles to professional publications, provide distribution emails on upcoming FAM related events and training opportunities, and provide an avenue for networking between members.
