The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Hampton Roads Post intends to award multiple scholarships to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) students for the 2025-2026 academic year. Eligible STEM degree programs include Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design, Construction Management, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Geology, Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Mathematics. Other degree programs may be accepted if they can be shown to relate to construction, operations, maintenance, or protection of national infrastructure (facilities, transportation, energy, water, telecommunications, etc.).
Completed applications are due TBD 2026 for the 2026-2027 school year.
Guidelines for eligibility and instructions for applying are included in the application links below. Recipients will be notified in mid-May 2025. Scholarships will be presented to all recipients during a special awards ceremony scheduled for 11 June 2025 from 11:30am – 1:00pm at the Westin Hotel located in the Town Center of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Current High School Applicants
Eligibility:
- Must be enrolled in a public or private high school (or home-schooled) in the Hampton Roads geographic footprint (Southeast Virginia). Applicants from outside of this footprint must provide a statement detailing their affiliation to the Hampton Roads Post for consideration of eligibility by the review panel.
- Must enroll in a full-time undergraduate STEM-related degree program at an accredited college or university in the fall term of 2025.
- Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 basis)
- Must not have received an appointment to a U.S. military academy (or affiliated preparatory school) or be awarded a full scholarship at any accredited U.S. post-secondary institution of higher education. A full scholarship is usually defined as one that provides for payment of tuition, room and board, books, and lab fees.

Eligibility:
- Must have a permanent address in the Hampton Roads Post geographic footprint (Southeast Virginia) or attend a college/university in Virginia in the fall term of 2025.
- Currently in a full-time undergraduate STEM-related degree program at an accredited college or university with plans to continue the program in the fall term of 2025.
- If enrolled in a community or two-year college, the applicant must be enrolled in a program of studies designed to allow the student to transfer directly into a STEM-related four-year program at an accredited university and must be enrolled as a full-time student working toward the degree in the fall term of 2025.
- Student Membership:
- First-time College/University applicants and previous applicants that did not receive a scholarship from the Hampton Roads post are not required to be members; however, preference will be given to student members of a SAME post and/or Student Chapter.
- Previous College/University recipients of a scholarship from the Hampton Roads Post are required to be members of a SAME post and/or Student Chapter to be eligible.
