The Charleston Post will be awarding various awards for 2022 during our Annual Awards Gala on November 12, 2022. We are excited to continue to recognize our members for their contributions.
Individuals and companies can be nominated for the following awards. Nominations are due by September 30, 2022.

Distinguished Service to the Charleston Post | A member of The Society and a current member of the Charleston Post. | Conspicuous and meritorious service to the Charleston Post during the previous year including notable contributions in past years. Outstanding leadership and accomplishments in support of the Society mission over ones entire period of membership in the Society. |
Outstanding Contributions to the Engineering Profession | Registered engineer who is a member of the Charleston Post prior to nomination. | Eminent and notable contributions in engineering, design, or construction in the past five years. |
Outstanding Contributions to Environmental Science or Sustainability | A member of the Charleston Post prior to nomination. | Eminent and notable contributions in environmental science or sustainability in the past five years. |
Outstanding Contributions to Architecture | A Registered Architect who is a member of the Charleston Post prior to nomination. | Eminent and notable contribution in the field of architecture in the past five years. |
Outstanding Contributions by a Young Military Member | Uniformed Member of SAME, who is 39 years old or younger in the year for which nominated, and who is a member of the Charleston Post prior to nomination. | The following criteria will be used in judging nominations: – Outstanding contributions to engineering, design, construction, research & development, or planning for a minimum of the past two years. – Demonstrated leadership in managing projects or organizations. – Receipt of awards or other recognition for professionalism, leadership and/or community service. |
Outstanding Contributions by a Young Civilian Member | Civilian member of SAME, who is 39 years old or younger in the year for which nominated, and who is a member of the Charleston Post prior to nomination. |
The following criteria will be used in judging nominations: – Outstanding contributions to engineering, design, construction, research & development, or planning for a minimum of the past two years. |
Young Member Award | A member of SAME who is a member of the Charleston Post prior to nomination and is 39 years old or younger in the year for which nominated. | Outstanding leadership and accomplishments in support of the Society Mission over one’s entire period of membership in the Society. Takes an active role in operations of the Post by serving on the Board or leading a Committee. |
Outstanding Contributions to Technology or the Engineering Profession | A member of SAME Charleston Post during the year for which nominated. | Initiative in advancement of existing engineering and related technology for the past three years; demonstrated acceptance and application of technology by users; demonstrated communication skills in technology advancement; effective use of teamwork; and cost savings and effectiveness of the technology. |
Post Service Award | A member of SAME for at least five years and a member of the Charleston Post for at least three years on the date of the nomination. | Individuals who have supported the Post over at least a period of three years and have contributed to the success of the Post. The Post must have been recognized as a distinguished Post at least once during the period for which the individual is being nominated. The individual should have held positions of responsibility in the Post, such as Secretary, Treasurer, or Committee Chair. |
Outstanding Fellow Award | Member who is a Fellow and has been a Charleston Post Member for at least one year. | Outstanding contribution to the Post by actively participating in Post membership meetings and events. Mentors members in operations of the Post and the importance of the Strategic Plan. Helps to establish an environment of open interaction with young members and acts as a sounding board for ideas and career concerns. Encourages Young members to attend SAME meetings and introduces to colleagues and connects Young Members with educational and employment opportunities. Encourages other Fellows in actively participate in Post activities. |
Outstanding Member Firm of the Year (Medium Size Firm; 101 to 2,499 employees) | Supporting Firm in the private sector who is a medium-sized company (101-2,499 employees). | The company supports the Charleston Post by allowing one or more employees to take on leadership positions at the Post, Region and National level, including Board of Direction, standing committees and conference planning committees; the Company supports Young Member participation in Society activities and mentoring programs; the Company supports K-12, College Outreach and community service activities; the company exhibited and sponsored activities/events at SAME National and/or Regional or Local Conferences. |
Sustaining Member Firm of the Year (Large Company; 2500+ employees) | SAME Sustaining Member Firm in the private sector and a Sustaining Member of at least two or more SAME Posts in each of the previous five years. | The company appoints individuals to sustaining member representative positions for each Post affiliation; the company representatives take on leadership positions at the Post, Region and National level, including Board of Direction, standing committees and conference planning committees; the company supports Young Member participation in Society activities and mentoring programs; the company supports K-12, College Outreach and community service activities; the company advertises in SAME publications (The Military Engineer, and the print version of the Directory of Member Companies & Organizations); the company exhibited and sponsored activities/events at SAME National and Region Conferences. |
Supporting Small Business Firm of the Year (<100 employees) | Supporting Small Business Firm in the private sector that is a Small Business in at least one NAICS category as of the date of nomination. | The Company supports the Charleston Post by allowing one or more employees to take on leadership positions at the Post level, including Board of Direction and committees; the company supports K-12, College Outreach and community service activities; the company participates in Small Business programs sponsored by The Society or public agencies; the company exhibits and sponsors at SAME local and/or regional conferences; the company supports Young Member participation in Society activities and mentoring programs. |
Communities of Interest
SAME’s Communities of Interest offer members a chance to engage nationally with other professionals focused on a particular technical field or demographic within joint engineering and the A/E/C industry.
