2030 SAME Strategic Plan Approved

Board of Direction Unanimously Approves 2030 SAME Strategic Plan

On Monday, May 13 at the 2024 JETC in Orlando, Fla., the SAME Board of Direction unanimously approved the 2030 SAME Strategic Plan, which will go into effect in January 2025.

The new plan builds on the momentum the Society has created over the last several years since instituting the 2025 SAME Strategic Plan, following SAME’s Centennial Celebration in 2020.

In the years since 2015, when the Society’s 100th Anniversary emerged as the focal point of a strategy to increase member engagement and the overall stakeholder impact of the organization’s multifaceted efforts in leader development, STEM outreach, and industry-government engagement, SAME has purposely focused its energy on leading collaboration within the A/E/C profession in support of national security. Whether enabling improvements to project delivery and the technical capabilities of agency partners, or providing assistance and opportunities for future leaders and STEM professionals to be leaders and mentors, these objectives are interdependent, and each is essential in the resilience and readiness of the nation’s engineering posture.

These efforts over the last few years are now the centerpiece of the 2030 SAME Strategic Plan, which calls on members, partners, and stakeholders to embrace and advance three interdependent goals: Drive Partnership, Deliver Solutions, and Develop People.

These goals are underpinned by a mission to “lead collaboration in support of our national security priorities” and inspired by a vision to “serve as the trusted integrator across the A/E/C and related professions in addressing our nation’s economic and security interests at home and abroad.“

With the milestone of the May 2024 Final Draft Approval by the Board of Direction at JETC now completed, there are three final steps in the Plan’s Development Timeline:

• November 2024 – Approve Supporting Post and COI Work Plans
• December 2024 – Incorporate Resourcing Requirements into National Office Budget Proposal to the Executive Committee
• January 2025 – 2030 SAME Strategic Plan and Supporting Streamer Plan in Effect

In addition, over the next few months Society leadership will socialize the new strategic plan during visits to Post and engagements with other stakeholders and SAME groups. In August, Post Leaders Workshop will include updates on the 2030 SAME Strategic Plan and corresponding updates to the Streamer Program.

Finally, over the summer and fall of 2024 (and potentially into 2025 as well), a new board-established work group will evaluate the Society’s Communities of Interest and national programs to determine if any recommendations should be made to the organization’s governance makeup to most effectively complement the new strategic plan.
