Topic: PFAS Management on DoD Installations

Presenter(s): Bonani Langan, GSI Environmental Inc.

10:30am: Board Meeting

11:30am: Networking

12:00pm: Lunch & Presentation

Abstract:

PFAS are ubiquitous in the environment and prevalent on DoD installations due to historic firefighting practices. The effects of historic aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) use has resulted in impacts to soil, groundwater and surface water at DoD installations resulting in widespread contamination. During construction and redevelopment activities at active and former DoD installations,  PFAS-impacted media needs to be managed strategically to mitigate further contamination and minimize disposal costs associated with assessment and management of waste. This presentation will discuss the following:

  • An overview of current and anticipated federal regulations and DoD adopted criteria
  • PFAS fate and transport
  • Management of impacted media during construction activities
  • On and offsite treatment options for impacted media
