SAME will host a Department of State Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations Industry Day in Washington, D.C., June 29-30. This market research event is designed to provide industry with information on competing for contracts with the Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations.

Topics slated for presentation include both program overview and acquisition forecasts as well as specific issues tied to overseas work such as design integration; construction risk, supply chain and cleared labor; and inflation and economic price adjustment. 

The two-day event also will include discipline-specific matchmaking such as architecture, interiors, construction management, climate security, and blast. It will include participation and support from the Office of Small & Disadvantaged Business Utilization, Office of the Procurement Executive, and Acquisition Management, all within the Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations.

OBO’s Office of Project Development and Coordination will present an overview of the capital program including active and upcoming projects. Highlights include a history of the program including legislation that increased funding to design changes in response to global security events. A brief discussion on the embassy effect will address how diplomatic presence overseas has a positive economic, social and environmental impact on the communities where we serve.

This session will provide insight into OBO’s construction management program and how to be successful. The speaker will discuss the lessons learned from a client’s perspective and owners, the benefits of working in the bureau’s program, and possible teaming and subcontracting opportunities.

The Industrial Security Division (DS/IS/IND) manages the State Department’s worldwide Industrial Security Program to ensure that national security (classified) and specifically designed sensitive, but unclassified (SBU) information entrusted to the private sector is properly handled and safeguarded. DS/IS/IND supports all bureaus within the Department, to include OBO. DS/IS/IND oversees OBO’s classified contracts and contracts which require access to classified and SBU information and ensures that appropriate security requirements are addressed for each project and incorporated into each RFP and contract.

The Bureau of Administration, Office of the Procurement Executive, Acquisitions Management (A/OPE/AQM) will give an overview of their organizations and how they support OBO’s acquisition needs. This session will describe the contracting process including contractor selection, contract award, in addition to upcoming contracting opportunities.

OBO’s Engineering Division will outline each division’s fundamental roles and responsibilities and their contributions to the successful execution of OBO’s mission.

The DEIA Strategic Framework to ensure we strengthen compliance on accessibility in all contracting, procurement, and acquisition processes, with a focus on equity in construction and construction-related contracts will be discussed.

Cancellations will be accepted through June 16, 2023, and must be received in writing, to registration@same.org. Registration fees will be refunded in full minus a handling and processing charge of $75.00 for individual registrations. SAME regrets that refunds cannot be issued after June 16, 2023. The cancelation fee and deadline do not apply to government registrations. Government registrations will receive full refunds at any time.
