Description: Conflicts of interest can be nuanced and complex for engineering professionals due to the confluence of legal, professional, and business standards, as well as the variety of relationships engineers have with project stakeholders. This presentation will identify and clarify: (1) conflicts of interest requirements and policies of which engineering professionals should be aware, (2) common misunderstandings regarding conflicts of interest, (3) differences and similarities between organizational conflicts of interest and professional conflicts, and (4) why managing conflicts and potential conflicts is an important component of engineering practice.
