Decentralizing Climate Action: The Role of Blockchain in State, Local, and Corporate Leadership

The United States is facing mounting climate challenges—intensifying wildfires, catastrophic flooding, and extreme weather events are becoming more frequent, threatening communities, infrastructure, and the economy. Despite these urgent threats, federal climate policy has now become divisive, with politics stalling comprehensive national action. However, progress is still being made at the state, local, and corporate levels, where innovative solutions are taking shape.

Blockchain and AI are emerging as transformative tools to bridge these divides and accelerate climate action. Blockchain’s decentralized ledger system ensures that climate-related data and transactions are transparent and immutable, fostering trust among stakeholders, including policymakers, businesses, and the public. State and local governments can utilize blockchain to harmonize their climate actions, creating interoperable systems that transcend political boundaries and enable more cohesive policies. Additionally, blockchain supports decentralized platforms where communities can manage their climate projects, attracting investment and bypassing federal roadblocks.

Join Edward Saltzberg, Executive Director of the Security and Sustainability Forum, as he moderates a compelling discussion with Alastair Marke, Director-General of the Blockchain & Climate Institute (BCI). Mr. Marke, a global authority on climate finance and emerging technologies, will share insights on how blockchain is reshaping climate governance and financing, from local resilience initiatives to international policy frameworks.
