About the Post
SAME is a nonprofit professional engineer association, headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia. SAME was founded in 1920 to engage military and federal government engineers with those in private life for the purpose of improving the engineering potential of the United States. The Northern Virginia Post is one of about 110 posts located throughout the United States and overseas. Our motto is dedicated in the interest of National Defense.
The Northern Virginia (NoVA) Post
SAME NoVA Post was chartered as the Fort Belvoir Post December 10, 1948 as SAME’s then 43rd local post. On 3 August 2000, the Post changed its name from Fort Belvoir to Northern Virginia. The Northern Virginia Post’s core geographical area comprises Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William Counties. No matter where you live, if your travel plans allow, please drop by on a temporary or permanent basis.
Objective is to become the Society’s pre-eminent Post by being a premier engineering organization leading the professional and personal growth of all members. We support the military readiness and development of solutions to national security challenges in Northern Virginia and beyond.
The Society of American Military Engineers is the only nonprofit professional engineering education organization that actively promotes the advancement of both individual technical knowledge and the collective engineering capabilities of governments, the uniformed services and private industry.
Our goal is to unite public and private sector entities and individuals in the A/E/C fields so that we can prepare for and overcome natural and man made disasters, acts of terrorism and improve security at home and abroad.
The Northern Virginia Post accomplishes this goal locally by supporting monthly luncheon meetings and other professional/social activities attended by members of local government, military, private industry, students and other interested parties. These meetings are announced via our e-mail distribution list and quarterly newsletter. We are supported by the national Society of American Military Engineers and publications such as The Military Engineer, which also promotes the interests and goals of our society and its members.
