Moreell Medal

The SAME Moreell Medal is named in honor of Adm. Ben Moreell, CEC, USN. Adm. Morreell was the National President of SAME in 1941 and was promoted to Admiral in 1946. He is the only Civil Engineer Corps officer ever promoted to four-star rank, and is known as the “Father of the Seabees.” This medal is presented for outstanding contribution to military engineering by a civilian or military member of the U.S. Navy’s Civil Engineer Corps. This medal was first awarded in 1955.

Eligibility

Members of the Civil Engineer Corps of the Navy: regular, reserve, or civilian, on active or inactive duty or retired.

Nomination Criteria

Most outstanding contribution to military engineering through achievement in planning, design, construction, public works, administration, research, or development.
